Following recent announcements from the UK and Scottish governments, it looks like we’re all going to be spending more time at home for the foreseeable future. For many, this will also include working from home. Add to this that we are now entering the seventh month of restrictions, it’s hardly surprising that we might be getting tired of the same old interiors.
However, changing your interiors need not be an expensive exercise, there are things you can do that will give your rooms that much-needed lift. Indeed, as we move from Summer to Autumn, it is something you should consider as the temperature drops and the nights draw in.
Here are some ideas that you should consider; they will make a difference without breaking the bank.
Changing cushion covers will make an immediate impact. Look for something with autumn colours, browns, oranges and dark greens will add some additional warmth as the days get cooler.
Throws are also an excellent way to introduce additional splashes of colour. Again, look at the tones that add some warmth to your room. It’s a similar situation with rugs; they’re an easy way to add a contrasting colour and transform your room.
Lighting is another way to change the atmosphere. New lamps can provide a refreshing change. Rather than the intensity of downlighters, why not try some carefully positioned table lamps, they can make a room very cosy and brighten your spirits at the same time.
Wall art and mirrors are also worth reviewing. Changing what you look at on your walls will change your mood. Pictures of places that remind you of happy times will provide a welcome, if not brief, reminisce. Mirrors can open your room and make it look like a larger space, something that many of us crave when spending too much time at home!
If you fancy a more substantial change, but still not break the bank, you could consider a new chair. Perhaps something that contrasts with your existing furniture. The obvious benefit here is that you enjoy something comfortable when you’re delving into your next Netflix box set. Or, how about a new coffee table; something stunning that becomes the centre point of your room?
Small changes can have a big impact; even a couple of new ornaments can make a difference. At John Dick & Son, we have a huge selection of pieces that can provide you with the small changes that make a difference. We are observing government guidelines, so there’s plenty of space to browse and get the inspiration you need to brighten up the next few months.
All of the pictures in this post were taken today (Friday 9th October) and are available in the showroom.
