Last week, we made an annual trip south, but this time it was one that we always look forward to. Many buying trips to large furniture trade shows can be disappointing, however we are rarely disappointed when we visit John Sankey, a family run business based in Derbyshire that still produces handmade furniture to the very highest quality – a rare breed in the United Kingdom nowadays.
Indeed, visiting John Sankey is a treat; seeing first-hand the traditional manufacturing techniques, attention to detail, and an ample doze of good old-fashioned family values makes it easy to see why the business is thriving and still making pieces of genuine quality. As an authorised retail partner, we are genuinely welcomed with open arms, and whilst they have a dedicated showroom for us to see the new ranges, we also get to see behind the scenes.
Far from being secretive about their operation, John Sankey is proud to show it off, and when you see the care and attention that is applied to every single piece you can appreciate why they are confident enough to provide a lifetime guarantee for their products. So, you are more likely to tire of your John Sankey sofa, than it is of you!
As you’d expect, the materials they use are selected with the same care and attention; they scour the globe looking for the best fabrics, but they are equally happy to have you specify the ones you like.
It is also refreshing that this highly labour intensive company is employing technology that enables you complete freedom of choice; their customisation tool is testament to their investment in the future. However, it’s the fact that you can lift the phone and speak to genuine craftsmen who are proud of everything they do that sets the company apart; a real joy to deal with, and to visit.
During our trip, we ordered several new pieces for the showroom, some of which are already arriving and adorning the special John Sankey room at The Peel. We cannot stress enough just how good these products are, and that the only way to really appreciate the craftsmanship is to come in and try them for yourself, we guarantee you will not be disappointed.
