Oak …But Not As You Know It.

OakBlog 1 is one of the most commonly used timbers. For hundreds of years it’s been the favoured by many different industries; it is widely used in the production of alcohol – The Scotch whisky industry is testament to this with the oak barrels then going on to be used for wine and sherry maturing. Oak chips are also favoured for the smoking of meat, fish and cheese.

However, with its strength, durability and distinctive markings it is perhaps most widely used in the production of furniture. But, when we hear the term ‘solid oak furniture’ we tend to stereotype it in a certain design most commonly found in large oak specialist high street stores, but at John Dick & Son we view it as something completely different, and we’d like you to know why.

Blog 3The truth is, oak furniture comes in many finishes and some of the examples we have in the showroom demonstrate how elegant oak can look when it is used creatively.

The range above uses a combination of limed and painted oak to produce some stunning furniture.  And, with the addition of ‘industrial’ fittings and handles, the end result is something distinctive and very rich.

Featuring an extensive range of designs, this manufacturer offers tables and cabinets in many shapes and sizes with various leg design options and metal fitting choices. And, the same applies to their seating options with many chair designs, and of course an extensive range of materials to make sure your furniture is precisely what you’re looking for.

You may also be excused for thinking the table pictured above is painted or stained, in actual fact it the colour in this range is achieved by baking the wood resulting in a very rich and elegant finish.  This coffee table is part of a range we have in the showroom that also includes sideboards, side tables and TV cabinets – well worth a closer look.

Blog 4This is a great range for those who prefer the more rugged ‘industrial’ designs which are highly fashionable at the moment. Beautifully crafted in a oak and metal, these pieces offer style, functionality and total flexibility.  The adjustable ‘easel’ style TV stand will house any modern TV, and attention to detail is evident in the oak wheels that allow you to move the coffee table around the room with ease.
