It’s been a busy time…many have testified to that!

21 December 2012

new 2biconWell folks, 2012 is almost at an end and what a busy year it’s been at John Dick & Son, we thought we’d round off the year with a recap of some of the things that we’ve been up to this year.

We got off to a really busy start with the opening of the Sofa Barn in what was the original showroom when we first opened way back in 1954. We opened the Sofa Barn in response to demand for lower cost sofas; nowadays most households have more than one sofa but people don’t want to spend same amount on furniture for TV rooms or conservatories as they do for their formal lounge. However, they still want quality and that’s why we opened the Sofa Barn, all of the furniture available here is designed and manufactured with price in mind; by making the most of all the materials and minimising waste, we are able to bring you a superb range of sofas from as little as £599.

The new showroom has be extremely successful and we are delighted by the response we’ve had from customers old and new. Bruce Dick, Managing Director of John Dick & Son said, “The opening of the Sofa Barn means we can now offer our customers something for every room in the house; more and more people have two, three or even four sofas in their house. We can now provide everything they need whether it be for their formal lounge or their TV room or den.”

We were also delighted to be involved once again with Castle Stuart Golf Club, home of the Scottish Open Championship. Working alongside G1 Architects, we fitted out the interiors for two luxury self catering lodges in the grounds and we were particularly pleased to get the following letter from Mark Parsinen, Managing Partner at Castle Stuart,

“Kingsbarns and now Castle Stuart Golf Links enjoy welcoming and comfortable clubhouses in no small part because of the exceptional guidance and service provided by Bruce and Sally Dick of John Dick & Son, the fine furniture and interior design firm in Glasgow. Our goal for the interior design at both Kingsbarns and Castle Stuart was to create an elegant yet understated, warm and comfortable clubhouse interior to enjoy oneself before and after golf. Their top-to-bottom counsel proved critical in achieving these goals. Our golfers owe a large part of their full and pleasurable golfing experience to the artful advice on colour, fabric, and furniture choices provided so thoughtfully by Bruce and Sally. Their professionalism and friendly manner spanning 13 years of working together have meant the world to me. I recommend them wholeheartedly and without reservation.”

In July we brought you our “Fifty Shades of Grey” blog post and competition, this proved to be very popular and we’ll be bringing you more fun promotions and competitions in 2013.

It’s been a really busy year for our interior design department, we have already mentioned the work they did at Castle Stuart but it wasn’t just this and many house interiors that kept them busy, we were delighted to be involved in some office interior work too. We wrote a blog post about one of these jobs back in September that looked at how we managed to integrate the fatBuzz branding into the interior of their offices – something that we increasingly asked to do. Here’s what Gordon White, Mamaging Director of fatBuzz had to say about the end result, “We are delighted with the result, Sally and her design team really did interpret what fatBuzz is all about and we have had many compliments since the offices were completed. It was the right decision to involve John Dick & Son – everything from the initial mood board to the delivery driver arriving at exactly the arranged time was a credit to the company, I would recommend them to anyone.”

The interior design team were also delighted with the outcome of a project in Strathaven, this was a major extension to a family home and we were lucky enough to be involved with the client from the outset of the project. We were equally delighted with the response from the client when the work was complete, here’s what Julie had to say about her new kitchen and living area, “I have recently completed an extension and kitchen conversion. The extension left me with a blank canvas which Sally has designed and filled far beyond my expectations. Every aspect of the room was fully discussed and all my likes and dislikes taken into account before we made the final decisions.

I would recommend John Dick and Son to anyone, regardless of whether you need led or have a definite idea for your design needs you will be in very capable hands. Nothing was left to chance; Sally visited my home on several occasions with sample books and tape measure in hand. Sizes checked and double checked, colours matched and re-matched. Sally was extremely patient and understanding when I was completely frazzled with the whole building process. My curtains, sofa, chairs, dining table, soft furnishings, wallpaper and lighting have all come from John Dick and Son. It was brilliant being able to work with Sally knowing that she had a great team behind her looking after all my needs.”
